During Women’s History Month, let’s take a look back at how the YWCA has been a part of all the progress that the United States has seen.
See some of the YWCA USA history HERE.
It is an amazing thing to be part of such a great movement. Our YWCA has been active in the New Mexico community for 106 years. We often giggle when we share the story of how we started as a residence for women moving into Albuquerque looking for “respectable work”. But, the work of the YWCA has truly changed lives, and changed policy, and changed social norms. I hope you will consider, during this month and months to come, joining the YWCA New Mexico movement by becoming a member. I also hope you take the time to celebrate Women’s Herstory. It is the history of our country, changing and growing, and making room to live out the values for all people. Celebrate by attending one of the numerous events happening in New Mexico, skimming through a website showing historical images and facts, rent a movie that tells the story of women’s struggle for equity or anything else that brings you closer to what is was like for women before you and reminds you why we need you active in the movement.
